mono is a sustainable single-stem flower holder that transforms a single flower into a calming everyday object. Designed with interchangeable components and minimalist aesthetics, it encourages intentional moments with nature while complementing modern living spaces.
Opportunity
Modern vases are often designed for large bouquets, creating visual clutter and requiring unnecessary materials. There is an opportunity to reimagine floral display as a simple, sustainable ritual centered around a single stem.
Concept
A sculptural flower holder inspired by the quiet minimalism of Muji, Aesop, and Le Labo. The design celebrates simplicity, allowing a single flower to become the focal point while offering users customizable display options.
User Experience
Users can easily place a single flower into the integrated glass tube and personalize the vase by swapping magnetic acrylic or basswood top pieces. Whether displaying a freshly purchased flower or one picked during a walk, MONO creates a meaningful, calming experience through intentional interaction.
Form & Material
A monolithic eco-resin body paired with interchangeable laser-cut acrylic and basswood tops. The soft concrete-like finish, natural wood grain, and transparent accents create a refined material contrast that feels warm, modern, and timeless.
Sustainability
Crafted from eco-resin with modular, replaceable components, MONO minimizes material waste while extending product longevity. Integrated copper helps prolong flower life, and the porous natural materials can absorb essential oils, enhancing the sensory experience without additional electronics or energy use.
System Thinking
MONO is designed as a modular platform rather than a single object. Magnetic top pieces allow users to adapt the vase for different stem counts, arrangements, and aesthetics, extending the product's usefulness through customization instead of replacement.
Outcome
A hybrid of product, interface, and environment that redefines wayfinding as an interactive, spatial experience—bridging industrial design and HCI.
